Operating Systems

Operating systems are used over thousands of devices each using different languages, offering different features, functions and options. Operating systems allowed computer hardware to communicate with users simply, the consoles all use operating systems for the user to commmunicate for example the Xbox 360 uses New Xbox experience dashboard and the PlayStation 3 uses the Xross Media Bar.

Windows 7

Windows 7 is one of the latest operating systems which has been developed from previous builds such as XP and Vista, it allows for extensive gaming hardware to be installed.

Windows seven is a brilliant gaming operating systems as it offers not only simple gaming but hardcore gaming with online, multi-output devices, surround sound and offers a connection between your Xbox Live account and Microsoft gaming account increasing the platforms and gaming experience.

Windows was the first ever company to create a GUI which has advanced ever since and is still one of the most popular operating systems, without this GUI being developed Microsoft's Xbox 360 wouldnt have had the technology and gaming platform to be built upon.

Linux

Linux is also a brilliant operating system even though its a free operating system, its constantly being updated and supports high calibre hardware just like the windows 7 operating however the gaming experience isn't as wide ranged as windows 7 and the amount of games that can be run on the Linux isn't great and will usually use a emulator to run the games which can cause lag, errors and crashing.

Linux is a brilliant example of how Microsoft and Playstation has enabled cross play, Linux has a very low amount of gaming producers and support however it can easily cope with flash games because it has cross platform technology. Although Playstation and Xbox don't have cross platform technology they allow for a number of different game files such as flash, java and different game engines along with letting previously made games for older consoles to be played on them for example Playstation 2 games can be played on the Playstation 3 and Xbox games can be played on the Xbox 360.

Mac OS

Mac OS is a operating system which was developed on the Linux although the operating system was based on Linux it isn't free however does offer a much higher gaming experience because Mac has a much higher amount of support for gaming and has higher processing power that Linux.

All of these above operating systems support Java, can install games to there Hard drives, run games of CD's, update drivers, online gaming and support sound output.

Mobile

Mobile operating systems are used amongst portable less powerful systems  however they can still support online gaming, flash, java, sound, touchscreen and updates.

Sony's PS Vita is a brilliant device for portable gaming because it supports touchscreen, sound, wifi, updates, flahs, java, surfing the web and multi cores. Without the technological advance and development of mobile hardware and software mobile gaming would be able to offer the wide range of games, high quality graphics and large data handling.

Windows CE

Windows CE is a operating system which is used amongst phones and tablets, these tablets and phones have low hardware specifications and power consumption compared to regular PC's so windows CE has been designed to be as powerful as possible without causing the phone to loose battery quickly.

Windows CE allows for internet gaming, surfing the web, Java and flash based programs, 3D applications, multiple cores and touch screen.

Palm OS

Palm OS is used on a wide range of phones usually touch screen based its designed for the simplest user interactivity. Palm OS offers a wide range of functions which include playing games, downloading, external connectivity, flash, Java, surf the web and allows for the operation of touch screen along with buttons.

Symbian OS

Symbian OS has been used for a number of years in mobile devices now simply because of its simple to use interfaces and the functions it offers for the user, this Symbian OS has been improved over the years and now supports and number of different platforms and options which include Multi touch support, Wifi support, internet browser, Flash, Java, external connectivity, Open GL Support, multiple cores and HDMI output.
